About Rains Birchard
Established in 2010 by marketing industry veterans Jon Rains and Matt Birchard, Rains Birchard Marketing has decades of experience helping businesses build brands, and build upon them, through effective marketing and creative direction.
Often referred to as an “outsourced, in-house marketing department” or “contract CMO,” we’re best known for developing a deep familiarity with our clients and their respective industries. We’ve helped dozens of startups through multiple rounds of funding, growth, and acquisition, and maintain partnerships with divisions of large, global corporations.
Regardless of size, we recognize that companies hire us to fulfill both their marketing and their business needs, so we recognize that we’re only truly successful when we’re invested in the tangible success of what we’re doing for our clients.
Life’s too short to work with people you don’t like. At Rains Birchard, we love what we do and who we do it for. If you’re interested in working with us, send us an e-mail or give us a call. We typically partner through retainer-based work, equity arrangements or work-for-hire projects.

Our Creative Process
Our simple process we call “the 7 D’s” allows us to lead creative projects from start to finish.
We begin with Discovery to understand our client, their business, their customers, and the value proposition to the customer. Next, we Digest what we’ve discovered to help us come to Decisions in step three. Decisions involve our client, and allow us to provide clear direction to our creative team as they begin the Design phase of the project. Design is just that — concepts and idea generation — taking into account all that we’ve learned in the steps before.
Upon completion of the Design phase and client approval, we’ll begin Development. For websites, this will mean implementing the agreed upon designs in a staging server environment to allow us to review work and make changes without affecting the live site. After development work is complete and client approved, the agency will Deploy the project.
The final stage of a project is a client Debrief where we’ll review the prior steps, ensure the deployment was successful, and provide any agreed upon reporting.
